Red Discord Bot

Red is an open source and highly modular bot for the Discord communications platform that I have been working on since early 2016. It started as a simple project with a few features and a large opportunity for expansion. I pushed the project into it’s latest version, got it onto PyPi, simplified the installation process, and started the core developer team. This team now has 5 members from all over the world and we work together to continue to push updates on a regular basis.

Co-op: Tesla

I spent the Fall semester of 2018 working at Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 plant in Sparks, Nevada for my fourth co-op term. Gigafactory 1 is a massive plant Tesla constructed in the High Sierra deserts where they work in conjunction with Panasonic to produce multiple products for Tesla Motors and Tesla Energy. My time there was spent working on the Model 3 Drive Unit and Battery Pack manufacturing lines.

FTC Volunteering in Reno, Nevada

I’m a 6 year veteran of the FIRST robotics programs and I whole-heartedly believe in their message of giving back. I moved to Reno as part of working for Tesla at GF1 and one of the first things I did was search for an FTC team that would be willing to have me as a mentor. Through this, I met a group of fantastic students who love FTC as much as I did. They were young, but willing to learn and work hard. I spent nearly every Sunday with them for four months and we worked for 5-6 hours a day on everything from mechanical design to programming.

Co-op: Patheon

For my second and third co-op terms I spent time in Greenville, North Carolina working at Patheon. Patheon, now a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, runs a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant there and I chose to work at that plant to gain some experience working in controls engineering. I wanted to use this experience as a stepping stone towards applying to co-op at Tesla.

Limnoria: Getting Started with Python

Back in 2012 I got my start learning Python 2.7 through a project called Limnoria on IRC. Limnoria is a piece of bot software that allows its’ owner to create or install plugins which contain commands that arbitrary users can execute on a connected IRC server. This modularity allows users to extend the functionality of the base project to do basically anything you could think of.

I thought this was awesome.
